Filter action for modifying the message body

I receive many email notifications from banks and other institutions that are poorly formatted, and it's hard to read the important info quickly. Of course, I have no control over this format. It would be great if I could modify the email body – add newlines, make some numbers bold, etc.

A simple regex mechanism or more powerful JavaScript would be perfect. I found Filtaquilla add-on which has an experimental feature called Javascript Action (with body) but it didn't work and there are no samples.

It would be nice to have such a feature out of the box. I realize that modifying the email body may be dangerous, but the user can get a warning when selecting this action.
