Status: New idea

Mozilla and Firefox is all about protecting its users and not taking advantage of people's data and mind.

The proposal here would be to have a Zen Mode (not the final name, but you get the idea). This mode, when enabled, would consist of the following, and this would all be configurable:

  • Reduce the maximum number of tabs to 5
  • Peaceful selection of musics to be played in the background
  • Block all pop-ups and force strict mode protection (privacy)
  • Disable all notifications
  • The toolbar would have all icons hidden besides a Zen Mode toggle and just show the url.
  • Reader mode enabled by default for all websites besides search engines

I believe this would bring value and bring a unique feature to Firefox.

@PedroHi! How are you? I think the zen mode is the compact design with vertical tabs: https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/new-compact-design/idi-p/165 , https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/native-vertical-tabs-like-in-microsoft-edge/idi-p/85

The zen mode could perhaps... customize the Mozilla Firefox components as proposed here:  https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/firefox-components-customizlable-browser/idi-p/564

My initial opinion

  1. "You customize Mozilla Firefox the way you want": https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/firefox-components-customizlable-browser/idi-p/564 - more privacy and more freedom for the user
  2. Compact design... "less is more" : https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/new-compact-design/idi-p/165 - more consistency for users in their research work... Freedom in the sense of doing the things I want to do (consistency too)
  3. Vertical tabs or horizontal tabs can be limited by about:config

Config about:config for Zen mode

@Anonymouslooks like a nice idea to integrate everything! Although I believe that for non-tech users, either a switch or shortcut to toggle those options or a very friendly UI to configure it is definitely a must! Thank you for the reply and for finding a way to integrate other ideas in this one!

This is a good idea. I think you should develop it as a Firefox extension. All of this looks achievable as an extension, and you won't have to wait for Mozilla to get to it. Plus you'll have control over the music selection and all the other details.

Need this - some sort of zen or hyper-focus mode to limit distractions.
