Suggesting no change in eye focus text entry position when using "Search tabs" option

When "Search tabs" is selected from RHS dropdown menu, the "Tabs" search box hops over to the left.

Intuitively eyes are fixed on the Search tabs banner expecting* the entry field to appear in the same place (to enter free search text), but the entry field and "Tabs" box opens to the centre, left of where eyes are focused. I'm wondering if there is a reason that the text entry "Tabs" box which opens to the left can't be repositioned to where eye focus is at the time "Search tabs" is clicked.

*Disclaimer: I find this behaviour irritating. No matter how often I use the search tabs option I expect it to open in the same area where I'm focused, but of course I accept others may not have an issue with this.
