Making moves
Status: New idea

Dear Firefox Team,

Currently, when using Firefox, the top and bottom bars, including the address bar and navigation buttons, remain visible at all times during scrolling. While they provide quick access to essential functions, they can occasionally obstruct content and reduce the immersive feel of the browsing experience.

I suggest introducing an option that allows these bars to automatically hide when users scroll down and reappear when they scroll up. This behavior is commonly found in modern mobile apps and can greatly enhance user interaction with web content.

Here are some benefits of this feature:

1. Enhanced Content Visibility: Disappearing bars while scrolling would ensure that users can fully focus on the webpage’s content without distractions.

2. Efficient Use of Screen Space: By auto-hiding the bars, users would gain more screen real estate for the content they are viewing, particularly on devices with limited screen sizes.

3. Intuitive Navigation: The bars would reappear when users start scrolling in the opposite direction, making navigation seamless and user-friendly.

4. Customization: Providing this option would allow users to tailor their browsing experience to their preferences, increasing Firefox’s appeal.

I believe that incorporating this feature would be a significant step forward for Firefox in terms of user experience and would set it apart from other browsers. It would cater to the needs of users who value both functionality and an unobstructed view of web content.

I think Firefox Nightly has exactly the feature you are looking for already (at least for Android).

I don't like this idea. This feature is available in Firefox Nightly and I hated it. Fortunately, you can disable it, which I did almost immediately.

I want the toolbars accessible always. I don't want to make an unnecessary scrolling motion just to see them again. It obstructs my browsing experience. Most of the time, I'm on the middle of the webpage. If this feature is enabled, then most of the time, I have to scroll just to see the toolbar. That's frustrating!

Also, the additional screen area is minimal. Sure, you can see a line or two of text. It's not a big improvement. The drawback of having to scroll is not worth the small added viewable screen space.
