I just find it not really neat to have the search engine icon on the left of the search bar. I get that its for switching search engines, but it makes me wonder how many ppl actually change their search engines often enough that there has to be a button for that on the screen all the time.

I don't ask to completely remove it, just add an option to remove it, or automaticaly hide it when the user deselects all the search engine options from the settings.

+1 for this, i also dont like it its actually in the way when trying to copy a section of a link on mobile(android) because half of the link is hidden behind the icon, should have an option to hide/disable it also i would like to add when copying section of a link ex www.cutecats.co/1234/cute-cuddles its hard to get the selector bars to just select "1234" because the selector bar is also hidden under the icon, only bypass i found so far is to put phone on landscape direction so i can see the whole link and adjust bars, would be better if it would just be a hold over the "1234" and only select that part like google does

I find this permanently visible google icon on firefox's searchbar totally offensive. It's stealth marketing  branding of the worst kind. And that there is no way to hide it, simply shines a bad light on firefox.
