Idea: right-click a pinned tab and choose "Load on view" so when starting firefox it doesn't process it until you actually view it.

Not only would this help generally with resources but my impression is the processing of pinned tabs is a hog when starting firefox on my computer.

Yes, it's true, perhaps to avoid it you can simply save those pinned pages as bookmark temporarily, this is useful only if you have many pinned tabs, maybe 3 or more, on low-end PCs, new PCs shouldn't have problems with many pinned tabs.

The web browser is now a huge app, and processing that is not immediately necessary should be put off in order to improve performance.

I support. About six tabs are permanently pinned, and due to the slow start compared to other browsers, the impression is slightly spoiled.

I was thinking an easier variant would be to have a global "load pinned tabs only on view". On googling that I found the about:config option to do that is

browser.sessionstore.restore_pinned_tabs_on_demand

I'll have to try it. But I wonder then if there's a case for custom choosing - people may want one or two to auto load such as a news and weather page but then choose for the others rather than have them all load on bulk.
