It has been several years (more like 10 years), while people have issues with multimedia playback and it's volume control on different platforms. (That problem does affect not only Linux users)
If browser does not follow systems overall volume control or sound settings, for "whatever reason", this is NOT good behavior or programming.
Multiple issues - or no sound at all ( autoplay enabled), or media playback reset to 100% volume in every tab/window refresh.
Do you want to broke peoples speakers with 100% volume or just get onto nerves of users and neighbors or freak out cats' dogs by sudden loud volume???
Whatever OS users have, browser should follow systems VOLUME manager MASTER control.
Whatever sound servers or volume control users do use, same applies -browser should be able to stay on user desired level.
Currently - about:config parameters like:
AudioIPC Server
Loudness Normalization
media.default_volume
0.5 |
media.cubeb.backend
alsa |
have absolutely no effect whatever value they have.
What is purpose of nonworking parameters in config???
So in brief, every other browser in world i have tried can manage simple audio playback.
Fix this FF issue and leave sound-server choice on user, set playback volume user configurable and set it in 20-50% range by default.
Last but not least- document it!
Thank you for attention.
