In Firefox, I often use the sidebar history view "By Date and Site" to see the history in different time and site buckets. For example, I can see the pages I visited "Yesterday" in "Youtube.com". Unfortunately, the sorting is alphabetical by the webpage's title. "By Site" and "By Date" views are also sorted alphabetically.

I really need the sorting to be based on date in descending order because I want to know the order when I visited pages in that particular website. Chronological order shows my train of thought while I'm browsing the site.

brixter, does selecting the View button within the history side panel, and then choosing "By Last Visited" give you the sort order that you want?

@TechHorseNot really. "By Last Visited" is sorted by date but the websites are not grouped into buckets of site and/or time. I would like to have the history in buckets ex. "Youtube.com" and "Last 7 days" but the sorting within those buckets are sorted by date.

Hi @brixter,

In the new History sidebar (see Firefox Nightly 133), if you "sort by date" you will have the pages sorted by date/timestamp (new --> old). This is new behavior.

I've created a bug to restore the "sort by date and site" option: check out https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1924349. However, I believe it is more user-friendly to have the pages sorted alphabetically when "sort by site" or "sort by date and site" is active, because the (only/second-level) sorting occurs by website, not by date.

But at least then, you would be able to also have them sorted by date using the "sort by date" option. This is not possible in the current release versions of Firefox. So, progress! 🙂

@BelFoxThanks for updating me. I don't have Nightly so I don't know what's on the pipeline. I'm excited for the sorting by date.

Yes, sorting alphabetically is also useful. I hope Firefox accomodates both alphabetical and chronological options.
