Block opening of new tabs for selected window

More and more web apps are appearing (Jupyter notebook, Google docs etc). One usability issue I have is that often I will start working on something, then have to deal with some emails, and open some more browser tabs, e.g using external programs etc.  My application window has not become one tab among many and I have trouble finding it again, particularly as I usually have several firefox windows open (I know I can use the search bar to locate the respective window using a text search, but it can still be a pain).  I would love to have the possibility to lock a window, so that no more tabs can be open in that window (could be limited to cases, where the URL comes from external program - such opening requests should not be denied but opened in another 'unlocked' Firefox window, or, if unavailable open a new window.
