API to hide or turn off the tabstrip

The API would function as a toggle or setter between the two modes.

I want this feature primarily to use TreeStyleTab, but think Firefox should be as customizable as possible for the benefit of the client.

There is already a thread for it on bugzilla; there was a suggestion to get a page here so that we can get some traction on the same thread.
