We released a handful of new languages for translations today - including support for Estonian.

@Jonhow exactly do you guys add languages, what do you guys use to deliver translation that fast locally? If you're using some database that's already out there, why not just add all the languages on the db?

@mozillian to add new languages, we train machine learning models for translation (https://github.com/mozilla/firefox-translations-training). For each language, we have to pick the right datasets and make sure our cleaning rules for the datasets are good.

The translations are really fast because the models are compressed and not running in the cloud, but downloaded locally in Firefox. This means they are faster, and this means we preserve privacy because the contents of the web pages you translate is never sent to us.
