Please, please, please give an option to set the width of the scroll bar in Firefox. It's so narrow that about 50% of the time when I try to drag it down, I end up dragging down the whole window. I'm sure it's nice for those who have their smartphone welded to their palm, but some of us still use PCs occasionally, and it's so annoying I usually just use the Page Down key, making the scroll bar pointless. I can't imagine anyone with less than great vision even trying to use Firefox because of this.

Solution that works for me:

  1. Go to about:config
  2. Change value of widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.style to 4

That's it!

There are two proper ways of making this work as you want:

  •  Check Windows Settings -> Accessibility -> Visual Effects -> Always Show Scrollbars. This affects all windows apps.
  • In about:config, change widget.windows.overlay-scrollbars.enabled to false, this affects just Firefox.

On top of that, Firefox respects your system scrollbar size on windows, but if you want you can turn that off (widget.non-native-theme.win.scrollbar.use-system-size=false) and make the scrollbar larger or smaller with widget.non-native-theme.scrollbar.size.override.

For seniors using a PC, this suggestion is really an accessibility issue for Firefox users.  The scroll bars are too thin for someone who has difficulty positioning the mouse pointer with the precision you require.

Option to increase vertical scrollbar width

Minimal design is nice and all, but slim vertical sidebar is hard to see, and navigate just right on laptop. Make width easily adjustable.

Hi all.

I was also annoyed and fiddled around with the settings.

In the attached screen dump you see the 5 settings needed to have a rectangular, 15 pix wide and not disappearing scrollbar (about:config -> <enter> -> 'scrollbar' -> <enter>).

The 5 settings have an undo arrow in the right. The last of these 5 settings is the width in pixels.

I'm very grateful to those who have gone before on this topic - I've used the about:config suggestion to make changes to my scrollbar width as well.  The impossible narrowness and precision needed to find a scrollbar really should have been fixed by now with a well-publicised accessibility campaign by Mozilla.
