I use firefox for many websites having to do with finances, and all of them insist on two factor authorization anytime I log in from a different device or browser. That's good for security, but when the browser updates, even by a minor version, this triggers the need for extra login security on most of those websites. It's expected, but when the browser offers to update multiple times/week, it gets sufficiently annoying that I end up dismissing the frequent update reminders.  May I suggest you have a tiered level of updates? Maybe a setting that would allow me to only see reminders for major updates, like security fixes or major feature additions. Thanks for considering, and by the way thanks for making it easier to offer a suggestion!

Group your updates, notify when a critical update need a users attention!

Complaints about the frequent updates and the even more frequent prompts to update are commonplace here on Mozilla Connect. While some need to update in order to fix bugs, others might deem updating unnecessary since the bugs don't impact their daily usage. However Firefox Users going with the latter option still keep being reminded that an update is available to be installed.

What I propose is a Setting (or at the very least an about:config preference) which would disable the Update prompts for "Minor" Updates such as for example 105.0.1 . This would happen when Firefox is set to check for updates but not dowload them. An exception would be set so that Firefox may flag an update as a Security Update, so that the prompts appear nevertheless, as I would consider Security Issues (and their solutions) to warrant notification.

On the other hand, I recall that Firefox Nightly already has a setting to "See less" update prompts. If it's still there, the next best solution would be to land it in Beta and Stable, while evidently adapting them to the much slower release cadence.

I have been using FireFox since before its inception (when it was just "Mozilla"), and thus I remember when one downloaded a program and it worked.  That was it.  You used it until it was outdated and a new version came out, and that was it.  Now, every 2-3 days it updates on its own, even though I've told it not to download updates unless I ask for it.  So, you can't make a program that just works, you have to update it every few days, and if I don't then the program doesn't work anymore.  Ad blocker, which is the MAIN reason to use FireFox, breaks with your updates.  The program also crashes randomly and may or may not bring your tabs back.  I'm a loyal customer, I don't like change, I don't want change, but I'm one crash away from my breaking point.  I will no longer recommend this half-finished (after 20 years) garbage.  A good alternative would be nice, if anyone can recommend one.  I want 3 things: tabs, no updates unless I ask for it, and a browser that doesn't crash on a weekly basis.  Actually make it 4: I also want to be able to use ad blocker.

106.0.3 on 10/22/22 was no good, Geek Squad failed here, whole screen blued out and there's no way to reverse except with a computer restore back to an earlier date,

there's an update almost every week, and each one you don't need, especially the last one!

Stop updating so frequently or allow users to turn off the nags.  All of the interruptions every few days are a major irritation!

I'm thinking of changing browsers because of it...

The constant updates are getting on my nerves. An update every six months would be completely sufficient. But annoying all 2 - 3 weeks.

Unfortunately the frequency of updates is really bringing a bad look and feel...
I think it could be solved with two steps (step two just be changed because it already exists):
1 - Giving control to user allow or not "automatic updates"
2 - Instead notification, a simple icon different can be highlighted in the toolbar

I hope you see and change it,

Thank you by attention.

There are too many updates of firefox, it takes time to update when you try to start firefox, you have to wait until you can see the browser, it's frustrating because there are frequent updates, it's not easy to use, Google Chrome is better Easy to use, if this doesn't improve, I won't use firefox anymore.

I've been ignoring these frequent trivial Foxfire updates, and I suspect other users are dismissing them too. Except in cases where they are addressing grave security issues, these updates should be optional to users before rolling it into a less frequent, perhaps monthly, update. There currently doesn't seem to be any control over an update that warrants an immediate push to all Firefox users.

Here is the latest trivial update from Firefox :

Quitting rapid release of Firefox

Recent Firefox releases have seen new features unpopular with users and some bugs. Because of this, I feel that Rapid Release is not suitable for the current development of Firefox.

Therefore, I propose that major releases be made once a year and integrated with ESR. I believe this will allow for sufficient beta testing and improve quality of the product.

Additional suggestion...

Save up the minor updates until you can add them to a major one or until you have enough of them to make it significant. Let's try to keep it down to one every couple of weeks.  It's really becoming quite a pain.

Just a thought! With every patch or update a new issue is always created and will never fix major points for vulnerabilities or solve the problem which is rushing to fix things, Band-Aid instead of a tourniquet I understand trying to protect users you are being responsible and taking accountability and thanks for that, but no matter what you do until a user takes full accountability for their own actions sadly you will always have to be updating. A better way is stop rushing updates, and feature without first checking what issues and vulnerabilities it'll create. users are important and we need to hold ourselves accountable for our own stupid mistakes and bad judgements if we mess up we will have to deal with it, a stable and reliable product is better. Just a thought!

it is botherig and molesting that firefox and/or thunderbird forces themself to update. it is not only the permant the updating-advice. If i reject to update this programs they make my machine slowly, force down my system, disconnect from the internet so i MUST make the update, rebooting the whole machine and so on. what **bleep** is it?

The frequency of updates is not just annoying, it is also causing problems.

I have had to revert back to version 96 and it works perfectly

The latest updates have been a real problem. THe Video Download Helper either does not work or downloads only a small part of a file with the latest updates. Firefox no longer accepts the VDH activation code with the latest updates.

With version 96, the VDH takes the code and works perfectly on any and all sites so far.

Unfortunately, every time I turn Firefox on, up pops a reminder to update.

Please get rid of it as it is only of nuisance value. If I needed to update, I would do so in the settings. PLease include a buttun to never to update or dismiss until required.

With this annoying popup, all I have to do is click on the wrong part & then go through the process of having to set everything up again. \

Shouldn't be too difficult for people who created Firefox in the first place.
