Firefox managed to bring HDR to Macs in 100.0 version. Now it's time for Windows!

It'd be awesome to watch and work on HDR images and videos using Firefox in 2022. Windows is the most popular OS, why not bring HDR here too?
More monitors and devices running on Windows support HDR, so there is an increase in demand of HDR support in Firefox.

The only option for Windows users is either to switch to another browser or to download and use a dedicated app from Microsoft Store.

@ArkDragonThanks. Nvidia Control Panel is reporting that it's working but it's now causing some display driver crashes not present in other browsers! I'll leave it be for the moment.

@ArkDragonthat works great for me

VSR + RTX HDR (fake HDR)

now I only need to wait for real HDR support from Firefox.

Hi everyone, I am thrilled to say that we’ve partnered with NVIDIA to roll out AI-powered RTX Video HDR support in Firefox 126, which launched on Monday! (Kudos to the eagle-eyed posters who discovered our support before this announcement!) The course of HDR video support does not run smooth, as you are more than aware, but I want to reiterate with you that we’re trying our best to get Firefox HDR video support over to Windows as soon as we can. Thanks to partners like NVIDIA, this is a step forward in getting over higher-quality video content to your screens. We thank you for your patience.

If you have any questions, please consult NVIDIA’s RTX Video FAQ and our Firefox 126 release notes. Please give it a try, and let us know if you encounter any issues. (Bugzilla would be the fastest channel for us to receive and monitor problems.) Thanks again!

Glad to see support starting to be added! Unfortunately I'm using an AMD GPU, so I'll be very much looking forward to the future releases with increased HDR support.

So any news on when we can expect HDR support ?

I started to record videos since a month ago since i discovered that i could use OBS to stream and record in HDR on my Radeon GPU which is working great, its just a shame Firefox does not support HDR yet, so i have to check in edge to see if HDR is processed on YouTube yet.

Also noticed darker videos just play better in HDR then in SDR, and i really do not want to switch to another browser so having HDR support in Firefox would be great.

HDR Support in Firefox for Windows

Come on guys it's 2024! The last request for this was made all the way back in May 2022. It ships with almost every major browser out there and no one ever really had to think about it as being a "feature" except for firefox. Why?

Is it really that hard or time consuming to implement that the Firefox Dev Team do not have the incentive for it because I have seen it "In Development" for a long time. At this point you guys have done everything but bringing HDR support to firefox, even RTX Video SuperResolution got implemented before this. Please bring HDR support for videos and images in Firefox🥲.

I'm done. I've been patient enough. I'm switching to another browser as my daily driver. Sad and annoying migration. I've been using Firefox for over a decade and feel disappointed that I have to leave it. I recommended this browser for many years and to many people, but lately I can't say so anymore 😕
