Still No 'Fix' on the Message List Pane

LiveInHope
Making moves

Another Thunderbird update - and still no 'fix' on this pointless Message List Pane size.

You have to ask yourself, what's more important? Being able to read your email properly, or being able to read a LIST of your emails?? Well, I'd rather be able to read my emails instead of having them shoved down to the bottom of the screen.

I just cannot understand why it was changed - but more importantly when so many people have complained, WHY HAS IT NOT BEEN CHANGED BACK?

With userChrome.css

Hi Agentvirtuel     Thanks for contacting me with that info.  I've seen that post, but for me it's just ridiculous!   I'm not a  computer programmer!  No way am I going to start trying to write or copy something called CSS code!

The point is the old 'Thunderbird' let you reduce the message list to two or three lines. On my computer, the MINIMUM is now ten!  So why not just put it back to the way it was? It doesn't need fancy programming! Just put back what was there!    Cheers

Agrred. Vertical space is at a premium for monitors of any resolution using readable text. The bottom preview pane has become so small I am considering dropping Thunderbird and going back to the monster email client that everybody else uses.  I am tired of having a useless preview pane when a working sliding divider, like it was before, has made this pane useless. I can already see most of the header I don't need to see it again. I need to see my email body text. At least a little of it!!!

Hi LarryWA   Thank you for your support. Why won't they change it back to the way it was?  Six updates at least since SuperNova, and yet this nonsense continues . . . .

is there any bug requesting a change?  I have not looked,  so I really do not know.  But I do know unless there is a bug raised nothing will happen.

Hello

For illustration purposes
Message list / thread pane can't be resized smaller than 7 or 10 mails - want it to show only a few mail

They don't want to hear the complaints there. However it does show that most find the preview pane useless now. We are not alone.
I'll give it another few eeks and then return to another email client after using and donating to mozzilla: for a decade now.

Hello

Firefox advanced customization and configuration options
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-advanced-customization-and-configuration
This also applies to Thunderbird. Please refer to Thunderbird's article

userChrome.css and .js and userContent are unsupported
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/userchromecss-js-usercontent-unsupported css it only lasts for a while

So it's best not to use advanced customization

There is a bug report on this topic, but if you want a fix then you need to follow the instructions at this link:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1423733

Yes, it means using 'userChrome.css', but it's not like anyone has to know how to code.

The truth is this, if you have the following skillset then it's very simple.

Required skillset:

  1. Ability to follow instructions
  2. Know how to create a new folder with a specifiied name
  3. Know how to copy and paste provided text
  4. Know how to save a file with a specified name

Hello

css is not a solution
The best thing is to go back to the way things were previous versions with an update https://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=14969559#p14969559 for Thunderbird 115

Heads up for everyone.

This bug has been marked as fixed which means it will soon get put into a release version, so hang in there.

For information purposes, it's not because (e.g. beta 123.0b1) that the concern will also only be resolved in (this is just an illustration) with Thunderbird 123 release
Beta, this is a pre-prod, a concern resolved in beta, may be resolved with one of the next Thunderbird release updates (for example) 115
