Some suggestions for better usability of Firefox on tablets

Making moves

Firefox Mobile doesn't seem like a browser specifically designed for large screen devices like tablets or foldable phones. It looks like Mozilla just stretched the elements that fit small screen devices and put them to tablets, and this resulted in an experience that is not intuitive enough. This situation has been slightly improved with default desktop view and tab strip supported in recent updates, but I think there is still something can be done for better user experience.

I'm taking Samsung Internet as an example for demonstration, because it's really an excellent example of customization. As can be seen in the following pictures, Samsung Internet allows full customization of its elements. UI layout and buttons on the toolbar are all customizable.

You can always customize the browser to your heart's content. In this case, disputes over UI design like “if there should be a tab strip”,“I don't like the button on the toolbar”will be no more.

Samsung Internet even allows you to merge the URL bar with the toolbar, thus fully utilizing the horizontal space, which has been wasted a lot on the current FF mobile. The 2 pictures below clearly show the difference.

This approach not only utilizes horizontal space, but also saves more vertical space, a good design for large screen devices.

I hope this post will provide some insights for the developers of Mozilla and help improve FF mobile user experience further.  May FF become better and better. 😊
