First of all Thank you for Firefox It's a great browser But not the best. Hands down the best browser of all time Is Netscape navigator It is dearly missed And very loved. So my question and comment is Have you thought maybe about bringing back Netscape Back. I know Firefox Is your main product But Firefox was based on Netscape And the original Netscape was just incredible. At least in my opinion I think that if you Work on a project to revive the old navigator It might actually get a positive response. I would love to hear your opinion

I'm with you on this. I would be open to a vastly updated Netscape browser. I remember thinking when Windows Vista came out that Netscape should call its next version "Netscape Vista." Even though Windows Vista isn't a thing anymore I think releasing a highly capable Netscape browser, possibly still called "Netscape Vista," could attract a lot of attention.

The original post is quite old, but it's never too late to respond.

As another contributor, I understand your suggestion to revive the old Netscape Navigator codebase. However, it's important to consider the challenges involved. The Mozilla Foundation and Corporation don't hold the rights to the Netscape brand, which would create significant obstacles even if they wanted to pursue this idea.

Moreover, the web has evolved dramatically since the early days of Netscape. HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SVG are just a few of the many building blocks that have transformed the online landscape. Bringing the old codebase up to speed with these new web standards would be an immense undertaking, likely beyond the capabilities of any team.

While reviving Netscape Navigator might not be feasible, your interest in improving web browsers is commendable. If you have specific ideas on how to enhance Firefox, don't hesitate to share them. Your insights could help make a difference in the ongoing development.

Mozilla as far as I know does not have the trademark for NetScape, but perhaps a netscape theme is available?

I'm only replying here again because there's been three fairly recent responses. When I talked about reviving Netscape I didn't mean bringing it back with an old code base; rather, I meant bringing it back very revived with a new code base, more powerful and user-friendly than ever before, with a modern yet familiar visual theme. It could potentially be a Firefox replacement for Mozilla and could (possibly) get a lot of attention if done right.

You're an ambitious one 😀 Anyway, the Netscape brand belongs to AOL, so Mozilla would not be allowed to use it. Which is a **bleep** shame!
