How to stop IRC chat from scrolling to the bottom when receiving a new message

I'm currently using the IRC chat of Thunderbird 115.0. Every time a new message is received, it immediately scrolls to the bottom, displaying the newest message. I don't like this at all. When I try to read older messages that I may have missed and new messages keep coming in, I have no other option but to hope that people stop chatting for a few minutes. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, though. However, the Feedback button inside Thunderbird led me here.

I was annoyed by the same thing.
I didn't find a solution, but a workaround is to hold the Shift key pressed while scrolling either with they PgUp key or by dragging the scrollbar with the mouse.
Unfortunately, scrolling with the mouse wheel will be disabled while the Shift key is pressed.
