My Windows 10 laptop in sleep mode was auto updated by Thunderbird to 128.7esr and crashed out on waking this morning.
Emails no longer show, repairing didn't work, but in trouble-shooting mode it works and all emails show.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Go back to normal mode > disable all your add-ons > re-enable one at a time and test.

The first thing I tried was disabling all add-ons, made no difference.
I do have about 15 mail accounts, some IMAP, some pop3, a lot of local folders, and a lot of emails over the last couple of years.
But in trouble-shooting mode it works fine.
Yesterday's update crashed, I guess that's the cause, restoring the .msc files doesn't help either.

Try turning off hardware acceleration:
- go to TB Menu > Settings and enter 'hardware' (no quotes) in the search box
- uncheck 'Use hardware acceleration when available'
- close the tab and restart TB
