Hi folks,
In the next few days, we will start the Nightly experiment which provides easy access to AI services from the sidebar. This functionality is entirely optional, and it’s there to see if it’s a helpful addition to Firefox. It is not built into any core functionality and needs to be turned on by you to see it.
If you want to try the experiment, activate it via Nightly Settings > Firefox Labs (please see full instructions here).
We’d love to hear your feedback once you try out the feature, and we’re open to all your ideas and thoughts, whether it’s small tweaks to the current experience or big, creative suggestions that could boost your productivity and make accessing your favorite tools and services in Firefox even easier.
Thanks so much for helping us improve Firefox!

Please don't do this! A lot of the reason people use firefox is because it doesn't have any AI services or algorithms implemented in it! AI like this is actively contributing to the degradation of the internet and you are one of the last bastions that has not succumbed to it!
09-18-2024 11:03 AM
Don't.

This is a feature I will never use. It is also a feature Firefox should never have. The environmental impact of AI on power usage and water is staggering, which is enough to shelve this on its own.
Are there AI/algorithmic applications in, say, recognizing cancer cells in scientific research? Yes! But I'm guessing you are trying to put in a **bleep**ty LLM that is trained on data it was not given permission to use and has not been screened for implicit biases and not giving us all early cancer screenings for free.

Do I want AI in Firefox?
I would rather set myself on fire.
Please keep it out. Yes, even as an "option".
09-18-2024 02:45 PM
No.
09-18-2024 02:52 PM
Good heavens, why would you? I switched to Firefox precisely to get away from all of this earth-murdering, soul-destroying, profit-worshiping madness. Look to who your user-base actually is, Mozilla. You'll find your answers.
09-18-2024 03:35 PM
No more AI crap. We're already filling the internet with garbage and killing the environment as it is
09-18-2024 05:37 PM
you **bleep**ing up the perfect browser !
09-18-2024 05:46 PM
i already stopped using duckduckgo because of the a.i crap they added ,im thinking **bleep** can computer completely ! this would be final straw !
09-18-2024 06:03 PM
Please do not? The only reason I use Firefox still is because it does not have AI. Thank you for not putting AI in it❤️.
09-18-2024 06:47 PM
Don't do this. Don't do this. I have been trying to actively avoid using services that use AI. I would rather not have to avoid using Firefox.
09-18-2024 07:06 PM
1. Add keyboard shortcut to toggle AI services sidebar.
2. Visual feedback on focus in chat input box.
09-18-2024 07:30 PM
Please do not alienate your loyal users by jumping on the terrible AI train. We do not want this, we did not ask for it, distinguish yourself by not buying into the bull**bleep** and falling for the lemon of AI.
09-18-2024 08:00 PM
I am opposed to the current use of generative AI not only because it steals works from real humans with zero credit given but it also uses a lot of energy and other resources to function. I am using Firefox over any of the other search engines out there in part because your browser is not forcing this "feature" on its users by default.
09-18-2024 08:21 PM
Yeah, gonna have to jump in on this to say ABSOLUTELY NO. You've built up a massive amount of good will and support, with many wanting to push to make Firefox everyone's default browser. Do not throw this all away for a quick buck. You are about to burn down everything you've worked to build with no way to ever recover. No. Do Not.
DO NOT ADD AI.
09-18-2024 08:58 PM
please please please don't!!! most of the reason I use firefox is because it has good features and privacy settings. generative AI uses ridiculous amounts of power, is fueled by uncredited work, and (if google's AI feature is any proof) often generates potentially dangerous misinformation.
09-18-2024 10:01 PM
Please don't.
09-19-2024 12:24 AM
**bleep** no, like holy **bleep**, this is the worst possible idea. Find whoever suggested this and throw their entire person into the trash can and never speak about this again.
09-19-2024 04:42 AM
Please don't. Ai has shown to be bull**bleep** that has only worsen the diferent programs where it's being added. For the good of the users of firefox don't add it
09-19-2024 05:48 AM
NO DO NOT DO THIS! IF I WANT AI, I WILL SEEK IT OUT!
09-19-2024 06:18 AM
Don't do this, please.

I can't believe all this hatred, I love this feature. It helps me better understand what I'm reading on a web page using my existing ChatGPT subscription, which has honestly saved me so much time and money. Other extensions rely on an API key from OpenAI that costs extra money over the existing subscription. This has really made my workflow 100% faster. Thanks!
09-19-2024 08:16 PM
You can't believe all the hatred because you didn't bother reading people's reasonable concerns about AI, or because you can't understand what you read even with AI "help"?
09-21-2024 05:52 PM
For real, the amount of people that fail to understand what this experiment is even for in this thread is insane.
FFS it is even opt-in. Nobody is making anyone use this feature for those that are panicing about their tinfoil hat opinions on the topic because they don't understand how these models are offered, including local LLMs. The whole conversation here has 'ban 5G' vibes lol.
10-05-2024 01:57 PM
Perhaps you should improve your reading comprehension instead of asking a machine to do that for you.
09-19-2024 08:52 AM
Bad idea - not only are the ethics generally whack but AI searches return horrendous results and generative AI can't do anything I don't want to do.
It's also wildly unpopular as a concept with your userbase.
09-19-2024 09:41 AM
Please give us an opportunity to disable it completely.
09-19-2024 02:19 PM
Great feature! The popup menu for generating the prompt is really useful. Can I access and modify these prompts, or add more to the list? Thanks for integrating this.
09-19-2024 08:13 PM
If you want AI in your browser so bad, please switch to one of the browsers that already has AI integration. And may your moment of realization dawn before AI destroys the ability of service-sector humans and creative-endeavor-sector humans to earn even a partial living wage -- not to mention the environmental impacts of the processing power needed to make AI function. I mean, who wouldn't choose the shiny button that destabilizes society? IT'S NEW AND SHINY!
09-19-2024 04:06 PM
NO
09-19-2024 04:45 PM
AI chatbots send the wrong idea of the future of the internet. Diminishing customer service jobs, connection and oversight, with far too many opportunities for corporate interference and biased training data. Bots are frustrating to interact with both in cases of malware and the new "standard" of "web assistants", I've never left a conversation with a bot that satisfied my questions or needs. On top of that, AI technology is powered by environmental disasters, just like bitcoin before it. Not a direction I'd like to see Firefox go in.
09-19-2024 05:09 PM
Please do not add AI to Firefox, it's one of the pillars of a good internet experience and I don't want that to change!
09-19-2024 05:16 PM
Hello Mozilla. The reason I prefer using Mozilla products like Firefox is because you don't usually add this kind of bull**bleep**. Your product appeals to the user who wants to escape from the en**bleep**tification other companies are filling their products with. Mozilla has a really good thing going on with Firefox being a perfectly usable browser that doesn't require giving up most of my privacy and data. Don't ruin it with AI. You know what the people want? I personally want tab workspaces, like the ones Opera has ❤️
09-19-2024 06:21 PM
Unnecessary; AI made Google search more confusing and irrelevant.
09-19-2024 07:06 PM
I use the mozilla vpn service. I prefer forefox to any other browser for it's ease of use and focus on it's customers base over shareholders. If ai is implemented I will be cancelling my vpn with Mozilla and not giving them my money. Do not implement AI.
09-19-2024 07:13 PM
Looking through the replies and not seeing a single customer of Mozilla saying they wouldn't even enjoy it, let alone use it, means that if they go ahead with it anyway, I'll sleep like a baby switching to a different browser and vpn.
09-19-2024 10:45 PM
Dear God no. It's unnecessary, annoying, invasive, and wastes ridiculous amounts of energy. It will actively make me not use your browser.
09-20-2024 02:30 AM
NOBODY is asking for this, how about you all focus on actually improving the browser instead of going down the latest fad?
09-20-2024 07:46 AM
Absolutely not. AI is godawful on so many levels and I will never use it.
09-20-2024 08:08 AM
There are a lot of dumb AIs in this thread. No, I'm not going to go back and look for every AI comment because that would make me stupid too. But they need to be called out. Here, I will pick one AT RANDOM: VildaVedo. VildaVedo's comment is completely wrong, full of lies, and probably made by an AI.
