LEAVING FIREFOX -- BROWSWER CRASHES CONSTANTLY

davidc915
Making moves

I made a username just to post this because I could not email firefox directly. After probably two decades of using firefox I am going to use Chrome. This is because Firefox crashes constantly despite getting an update seemingly every week. I am not doing anything demanding of the browser -- just work websites and maybe ten tabs open at a time. I wanted to support firefox so that there would continue to be diversity in browser options but you all are making a failing product. Do better.

What are your crash IDs?  https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/mozillacrashreporter#w_viewing-crash-reports

Post a few of them here - as text please, not a screen shot.

Thanks. Those are crashes, but they are "Unsubmitted Crash Reports".  Please click "Submit" on the 5 most recent crashes. Then go back to Troubleshooting Information, the crashes will appear with "bp-xxxxxx" - post the crash IDs here.

@pisani all of your crash signatures are mtx_do_lock and they point to a product SMART Ink Favorites.

Start Windows in safe mode with networking enabled - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode

Still In Windows safe mode, start Thunderbird in Troubleshoot Mode - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-mode-thunderbird

Does problem go away?

@atakan_dc you have insufficient page file space. https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/1011bd64-a3fb-413c-80c7-446450240309 shows less than 19 MB available.  The crash signatures matches to Bug 1615310 - Crash in [@ OOM | unknown | NS_ABORT_OOM | XPCJSContext::Initialize] which states there insufficient memory for Firefox to start.

@atakan_dc were you able to adjust your system?

I was Wayne, but it did not make a difference- I changed the upper and lower limit on my 32 GB RAM.

@atakan_dc We'd need your newer crash reports to make an assessment

Items which do not have "bp-" at the start of the ID are not on the crash server, so we can't examine them. You need to Click the Submit button for each recent unsubmitted report and then reload the list of crashes.

I, too, am having frequent crashes and occasional total freeze ups that seem to be related to Firefox.  I do not want to leave, but have been using Chrome more.  I am using Linux Ubuntu, 22.04.4  I usually forward all crash reports, but they are so frequent I may have missed some.

To have someone here interpret your crash reports, you'll need to find them in Help > Troubleshooting Information. They start with "BP-"

Same here. It had been stable for decades but after the recent update, Firefox has been crashing often for me too. Typical instance of crashes is when I right-click on a link or video or anything else to open it in a new tab and the new tab crashes when I get to it. It doesn't matter whether I click on the new tab immediately or minutes later after I finish whatever I'm doing in the current tab. It doesn't happen every time and I haven't noticed any commonality preceding each crash. And the issue usually goes away after a few crashes. I haven't submitted any crash report so far, but it is frustrating to experience it every day.

I'm just waiting for the next update to hopefully resolve this crashing issue. It's not the first time Firefox has crashed in my decades of using it, but Firefox is still less draining on resources than other browsers and I like it enough to stay on it. I'm just here to voice my frustration. It is quite high as this is the first time I actually came onto the Mozilla site to see if there are any reports of similar crashes and if there's an existing solution or a resolution being worked on.

I've been using Firefox back when it was Netscape, and I have never seen so many crashes in my life.  Firefox crashes about every 24 to 48 hours on average.  After reading all of these posts concerning crashes, it's obvious that something is VERY wrong with Firefox.  If Firefox didnt offer the ability to restore the pages I've got up, I'd have to leave Firefox.  I'd hate to do that but whoever is in charge needs to fix this before everyone leaves.

I completely forgot about Netscape until you mentioned it.....lol. I started with Netscape too. I still remember browser was Netscape, email was Thunderbird. And if you lost your inbox or had to migrate to a new computer or something, there was a folder that you could copy from the old to the new pc and have all your old mails populated in the new pc. I remember even printing the instructions for doing that....lol. Those were the days.

Firefox, please do something. You see here that you have a group of rather loyal users who like using Firefox.
