Enter key is wrong in Thunderbird

When I press the Enter key in Thunderbird, it adds a blank line.
I don't want a blank line.  I want just one Enter key, not two.
This is different than 99% of the other editors on planet earth.

if you want a blank line, just press the Enter key 2 times.  Easy.

This is a bug in Thunderbird, please fix it.

Yes, this change was made in 2016. There was a checkbox to revert to the old behavior, but I haven't looked to see whether that still exists. See: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1120795.

For me, this has only started happening in 2024.

And not only does it add two blank lines instead of one, it puts them *above* where I'm typing, so I have to go back *every single time* and delete them and put them where I'd originally intended.

Can someone please tell me what version to install so that this stops happening?  It's adding a ton of time to my use of Thunderbird, to the point where I'm considering finding an alternative.
