Here are several ideas related to improving the management of bookmarks.
1) Many bookmarks I have have a shelf life that isn't "forever". Over time my bookmarks get messier and messier. When I add a bookmark, it might be nice to have an optional expiration value (expires on _________, or expires in __________ days/weeks/months/years). When the bookmark expires, prompt me for approval to delete it.
2) Many bookmarks are really old and not something I've touched in ages. Perhaps have a bookmark review that notices bookmarks I haven't used in some <configurable> period of time, and ask me if I want to delete these old bookmarks.
3) Periodically try bookmarks in the background to see if the site or page they point to are still valid. If not, try again a couple more times later to be sure. After 3 (configurable?) failures, prompt me if I want to delete the broken bookmark.

@firefox4 thanks - these are really good ideas! If you want to submit them to the Ideas page, be sure to submit each idea individually so they each get the proper attention - including votes, comments, etc. Here's a little bit more about the Ideas Guidelines
Hope this helps!
